Be prepared…

August 27, 2012

We all know the verse in 1Peter 3:15, “…always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you…”  Sadly this exhortation from the Apostle Peter is not taken very seriously.  We all in one way or another have failed to live up to this verse, and for that we must get into our bibles more, pray more, seek the Lord more, so that His glory is revealed as we share the amazing grace to unbelievers.

I talked to a young man in his 20’s last week at the booth.  After chatting a bit I found out he was a believer.  I asked him this question, “If I came up to you and I asked you, ‘What do I need to do to get to heaven,’ what would you say?”  He was silent for awhile and then said, “Well it depends what you believe?”

We went back and forth role-playing for awhile (I was the non-believer and him the believer).  He never really gave me a straight answer.  I would ask him to elaborate on what he was saying and he would pause for a long time.  So then I told him, “I’ve just been shot, I have a minute until I die.  How do I get to heaven?”  He put his finger to his chin and looked up thinking about it, wondering how he should respond.  “Hurry, I’m dying!”  At this point I was really getting into my character.  He tells me that I need to ask Jesus in my heart.  “How do I do that?”  He then takes my hand bows his head and starts reciting the Lord’s prayer

Believers – Are we able to articulate the Gospel message to someone?  Are we able to clearly tell a non-believer how to receive forgiveness for their sins.  We are at war with Satan and the forces of darkness.  This is a war where the lives of people’s souls are at stake.  We must be prepared at all times.  We can’t afford not to be.
