“I want to go to heaven!”

July 29, 2012

A couple weeks ago I was in Costco and I got a sample for my son.  I greeted the lady and asked how her day was going.  She put her finger up in the air and said, “It’s good because of Him.”  I replied with , “Praise God!  Are you a believer?”  She said she was and that she went to a Catholic church.  I then asked if she was born again which her response was, “Yes.”  We continued talking about Jesus and heaven and hell as she continued to give my son sample after sample of popcorn.  I ended up praying for her right there in Costco not really sure if she was a believer or not, but praying she would surrender EVERYTHING to Jesus.  We had a good talk and I felt compelled to give her my cell number and my email and then left her with a million dollar bill.  A few weeks later, Laura called me so excited.  Here’s her write up of what happened.

The other day I went shopping at Costco. I was planning to pass out tracts as usual to the greeter, the check out clerks & the person who checks your receipt at the door. But for some reason, the Lord, put it on my heart to give a tract to the lady who was passing out yogurt samples. When I gave it to her she said she already got one of them. I got really excited and said, “You did?  From who?”  She said it was from Karissa. I told her that Karissa is one of my best friends and we pass out these million dollar tracts at the Farmers Market. She then said out of nowhere, “I want to go to heaven.” This was my open door to share with her how a person can go to heaven.

At first she thought she went to heaven by being good.  I shared what the bible says and how we’re all sinners (Romans 3:23), the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ (John 14:6) and how you have to be born again (John 3:3). She said she really needed to hear these words and that and she would receive Jesus’ free gift of salvation and trust Him alone for her salvation. Wow! I told her, “God is really trying to get a hold of you. First Karissa shared with you and now me.  How likely is that?”   She agreed that God was trying to get a hold of her and said she was really hungry for God. It was two divine appointments pre- arranged by God. This was such a great day! The funny thing is that my 3 and 4 yr. old were with me and this lady kept feeding them yogurt samples. They must have had at least a half a dozen samples each.  🙂

Sing to the LORD; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Psalm 96:2
