Mommy Evangelism

November 2, 2012

One of the most amazing jobs in the world is being a mommy to my two year old.   But even more amazing than this, is being an ambassador for the Lord of Lords and King of Kings.  Being a mommy and an ambassador for Christ CAN be done by the grace given to us by our Jesus.  I write this post to encourage all mommies out there that we can be used mightily by the Lord even while loving and serving our hubby and training up our kids in the way that they should go.  I am definitely NOT an expert on this and I still have MUCH to learn, but here are some things that have helped me to have a missionary mindset as I go about my daily life being a wife and mom.

Ideally, every morning  I pray that God would direct me to the person that He wants me to talk to.  I pray that God would begin now softening their heart and preparing them to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  I pray in expectancy that God will open up doors for me to be able to speak forth His message and I pray for boldness to open my mouth and speak!

I keep Gospel tracts in my wallet, in my purse, in my diaper bag, and in my car along with Gospel of John booklets.  Whenever I open up my wallet I try and give the person a million dollar bill Gospel tract that I get at  Sometimes I give the tract to my son and he LOVES to give them out.  I usually just say, “Here’s a million dollars for you.  It has the Gospel message on the back.”  I am hardly ever turned down which is nice and they just received the gospel!  There are many testimonies of people getting saved simply from reading a Gospel tract.

When I go to a park or the library with my son, I try to be friendly with people and strike up conversations with them.  I usually try and swing it from the natural to the spiritual by simply asking them if they go to church.  If they don’t, I ask them what their beliefs are about the afterlife.  By asking them questions, this has provided me with the most non-threatening way of getting into spiritual conversations and sharing the Gospel with people.  I recently started a group called M4G (Moms for the Gospel) which is a group of moms who go to parks with our kids with the intention of sharing the Gospel with those who God brings to the park.  This is a cool ministry because we can have our kids with us, we get to hear how the other moms share the Gospel, and we can look after each other’s kids.

It also really helps to have another sister in the Lord who shares the same passion.  My friend Laura and I pray for each other daily and call each other each time we are able to share the Gospel with someone.  I call her my Barnabas as she is my constant encouragement to be a bold witness for our Lord.

Here is a great ministry that was started by a stay at home mom of six.  Jenn loves Jesus and has a passion to see people come to know Him through evangelism and desires to encourage other moms to share their faith as well.  Check out her website for some great encouragement:

Now let me just say that I still battle fear, especially talking to people I already have relationships with.  “What are they going to think?  Are they going to try and avoid me every time I see them again?  What if they totally reject me and blow me off?”  These are some of the questions that run through my head.  But I love what Ray Comfort said:  “The worst thing that could happen to you when you are witnessing to someone is that they reject you, but the worst thing that could happen to them is that they die and spend an eternity in hell.”  I pray that our love for Jesus and desire to have his name glorified throughout the earth would compel me to open my mouth and speak forth the truth!

What an awesome privilege and honor we have to partner with the Creator of the Universe to spread his message of salvation!  Let’s go share about our King!
