Praying for boldness and God’s leading…

September 2, 2013

I called my dear sister in Christ, and partner with me on the streets, just to check in with her. She was telling me how she hadn’t been too bold lately in her day to day witness. She hadn’t been going out of her way to share Jesus except at our planned outreaches. She was on her way to to her son’s karate class and she for boldness, and prayed that God would lead her to someone to talk to during her son’s class. And God was faithful. And Laura was obedient. It was a perfect divine appointment with another mom who had just moved into the area and whose son was in the same karate class as Laura’s.

This was EXACTLY the way I had been feeling. There were many opportunities to go out of my way just a little bit, open my mouth, and strike up a conversation with someone about Jesus. But call it laziness, fear, or whatever, I just wasn’t doing it except at the planned outreaches.

I had to run to the grocery store to pick up just a few things and my son stayed home with Papa. As I pulled into the parking lot I prayed that God would lead me to someone who He wanted me to talk to and I would be bold enough to seize that opportunity. I was in the health isle of the store and the sweet lady was helping me pick out a good immune booster for my son. It was taking kind of a long time and I had things to get done before our Friday night Farmer’s Market outreach, but I had prayed that God would lead me to someone to talk to and this lady was just so sweet, so when she was finally done helping me, I pulled out a million dollar bill from my purse and gave it to her. “It has the Gospel message on the back,” I told her.

The look on her face made it seem like I just made her night. She was soooooooo excited. I turned it over for her and said, “It has the million dollar question on the back, ‘When you die will you go to heaven?'”

“OH, what church do you go to she asked?” I told her and then asked if she went to church as well. She said, “Yes,” and told me of her little church.

I then asked her how I could pray for her. With tears in her eyes she began to tell me of her daughter and how she had her 3rd and 4th surgery coming up because of tumors on her brain. She was trying to be positive and trying to take care of her daughter but it was so exhausting. I asked if I could pray for her right there and she said, “of course!” So we bowed our heads in the middle of the isle and I prayed.

She gave me a big hug and told me how much that all meant. I also gave her a couple bible verses and she wrote them down eagerly. I then told her how I had prayed that God would lead me to the person He wanted me to talk right before I came into the store. She looked up and said, “Thank you, God!”

It’s so awesome when we ask for open doors, God is always faithful to give them to us and it’s up to us to take them. And when we do, we will never be disappointed. May we take the time to reach out to others and share the love of Jesus with them! He is so good!!!
