Sharing Jesus in the Hot Tub

February 26, 2013

Recently, my hubby and I were blessed with a night away at my Dad’s timeshare.  We were so excited to get a full night of sleep (my son stayed at a friend’s house), but we were also so excited to spend time relaxing in the hot tub.

As we approached the hot tub I saw a man sitting in there, chilling with his beer.  “Okay, Lord, help me to be able to share the Gospel with him.”  My husband and I struck up a conversation with him.  He was really friendly, but I couldn’t find an “in” to switch from the natural to the spiritual.  I prayed that the Lord would give me an “in” that wasn’t really awkward and forced, but I just couldn’t find one.  After talking about zoo animals for what seemed like forever I just asked him, “Hey, so do you go to church?”

Apparently he didn’t think that was a weird, out of nowhere question, and told us that he tried to get to church on Sundays.  He went to Catholic Mass, believed in Jesus, but didn’t believe in hell.  He thought hell was here on earth.

We asked if he believed in an afterlife and if there was a heaven, what you had to do to get there.  Like most people we ask this question to, he believed that we just had to be good people and do good things.

We had an AWESOME conversation.  As we shared the Gospel with him, he nodded his head and agreed with everything we were saying.  As we shared about God’s love and the fact that the Creator of the Universe loved us soooooo much that he humbled himself, came down from heaven in the person of Jesus Christ and died a sinner’s death to set us free from the penalty of sin and death, he kept saying, “Wow!  That’s pretty crazy!”  We urged him to get right with God for we never know when our last day is going to be and we will be face to face with a HOLY, and righteous God having to give an account for everything that we’ve said, done, and thought.  He agreed that this conversation was not by accident and thanked us for taking the time to share with him.  My husband prayed for him and encouraged him to open up his bible to the Gospel of John and read it for himself.  He said he would.

What joy flooded my heart as we walked back to our room.  We prayed that the seeds planted would take root deep inside and that he would repent and give his life to Jesus.  What if God used that conversation to save this man from an eternity in hell?  I’ll never know here on this earth, but there is nothing and no one that I rather talk about more than my Savior who saved me, a wretched soul, from an eternity in hell, made me into a new creation, and then sent me out as an ambassador for Him to bring more people into His Kingdom!  God is so good!!!!
