Train Up Your Children by Laura Hadley

May 4, 2013

The other day my two children and I went to the park.  I slipped a few million dollar gospel tracts in my back pocket in case I got the chance to share Jesus.  Well, it wasn’t me who shared that day.  It was my 3 and 5 year old children!

In Awana’s, a bible club my kids go to, they were encouraged to share something.  It didn’t occur to me that my 5 year old son would take that to mean, share Jesus.  But praise God he did!  My little guy took a gospel tract and proceeded to bring it to the young gentleman, probably in his early twenties.  This sparked a desire in my 3 year old daughter to go tell him about Jesus too!

I don’t know exactly what they were saying, but they were both excited and kept going over to him to tell him something.  I asked my son what he said to the young gentlemen and he said he asked him if he knew Jesus.  After that, they were so excited and they wanted to pass out more tracts.  So on the walk home, they passed out 2 more.

That led to a conversation with my children about how to share the Gospel with people and what to say.  I told them the A.B.C.’s  of salvation and how that could help them to remember.  (A-Admit you are a sinner, B-Believe Jesus died for your sins  rose again, C-Choose to receive Jesus as our Savior from our sins.)  That night we watched videos on the A.B.C.’s of salvation. =)

Now when we leave the house I tell them we need to always be ready.  And then I ask, “What do we need to be ready for?” and my son says, “To share Jesus.”

I’m touched to see my children being little evangelists and fulfilling the Great Commission.  It’s only by God’s grace and work in their lives.  Thank you Jesus!  If God can use a 5 and 3 year old to share His Gospel, He can use anyone!!!

Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not depart from it.”  If there is nothing more important than people’s  eternal salvation, doesn’t it make sense to teach our children about sharing Jesus with the World?  Children are imitators of us.  Sometimes that’s bad and sometimes that good.

Lord, help us to be more and more like Jesus. Help us to set the world on fire until it’s burning bright for you, reaching the world one soul at a time, encouraging other believers to do the same.  Oh God, we need you, please fill us so full that you overflow into the lives of those around us.  Be glorified Jesus!  May your name be lifted higher and higher!  We love You!!!  In Jesus name, Amen.
